Since 2009, the Foundation Support for Development (Stiftelsen Stöd för Utveckling) has supported poverty alleviation and development project for small scale farmers and for women in Guatemala and in Zambia. In Sweden, support has been given an integration project in suburbs of Stockholm.
The Foundation Support for Development makes long term commitments to its partner institutions and projects. Institutional capacity development and design of efficient models to help the target group are important components of any support. In general, the projects include both financial and technical (capacity enhancement) support from the Foundation Support for Development.
The funded projects have for example:
The Women's Empowerment Project has developed and validated an innovative model for women's empowerment that has been replicated in Guatemala and in Zambia.
The Women's Empowerment Project targets poor women in difficult circumstances like domestic violence, gender based discrimination and single mothers.
In Guatemala, the WEP Project has helped to improve the lives or more than 11,000 poor women and their families.
In Zambia the Women's Empowerment Project has supported the lives of close to 1,000 women organised in 33 village bank groups.
Among the achieved results in the Women's Empowerment Project are higher income, better self-esteem, decreased violence and increased participation of women in decision making at household and community levels. More equal upbringing of sons and daughters. More opportunities for girls' schooling.
The participating women invested profits to improve their and their family's lives, food, clothing and children's education. Some bought land and improved or built houses.
The Rural Economic Development Project in Guatemala developed and validated an integrated model for agricultural capacity building and hands on value chain through linking poor farmers to financial services and markets. The model also includes gender equality work and adaptation to climate change.
The Rural Economic Development Project in Guatemala: organised, trained and supported the inclusion of more than 1,200 poor smallholder farmers (men and women) into agricultural export chains in order to improve their earnings from agriculture and the living situation for their families, benefitting almost 7,000 persons most of them children.
The Rural Economic Development Project supported the start-up and consolidation of an agricultural cooperative Ajnim R.L for smallholder farmers.
Through the supported farmers, 332,000 kilos of green beans were produced and exported annually, creating income for farmers and local employment opportunities for other poor families, around 16,000 days of employment.
Support to Framtidssmedjan gave daughters of immigrants in peri-urban areas in Sweden possibilities for increased knowledge of Swedish culture, institutions and how society works as well as increased network outside their living area.
Emergency support to thousands of families suffering the consequences of the hurricanes ETA an Iota in Guatemala 2020.
